In 2012, the Neoclassical-style First National Bank building was renovated. The project included a total tear-off of the existing modified bitumen roof and installation of a new fully adhered TPO roof replacement system. It now houses 154 luxury apartments, a fitness center, and retail space. Fun fact: International Roofing also put the prior roof on the building in 1996.
The project presented a number of logistical challenges being in downtown Richmond, having no inside roof access, and being 19 stories up on a skyscraper. The volume of mechanical units on the rooftop required intricate, detailed roof work.
First National Bank building (aliases include Old First Bank Building, Merchants National Bank Building, BB&T Bank Building) was built in 1912. It was the first high-rise office tower to be built in the city, and at the time, the tallest* (now that title belongs to the James Monroe Building). The building is now LEED Silver- certified and is on the National Register of Historic Places. We are proud to have been involved in a project that preserves Richmond’s architectural history, integrity, and legacy.
