What is a “Green Roof” System?

A green roof system (vegetative roof or live roof) employs a top layer of live vegetation above a waterproofed layer at any building level that is separated from the ground beneath it by a man-made structure. A “live roof” system is comprised of a waterproofing system and its associated components; protection course, root barrier, drainage layer, thermal insulation and aeration layer with a growth media and live plants at the top level.
